Why Indonesian Women Easier Gotten Breast Cancer?
Cancer is still one of the biggest causes of death in the world. In Indonesia, the most common type of cancer that attacks women is breast and cervical cancer (cervix). That is, Indonesian women are more at risk of this second cancer. Based on 2007 Basic Health Research data, the prevalence of tumor (benign and malignant) is 4.3 per 1000 population in Indonesia. Cancer is the number 7 cause of death (5.7 percent) after stroke, tuberculosis, hypertension, injury, perinatal and diabetes. “” Whereas according to Hospital Information System (SIRS), the highest cancer in hospitals throughout Indonesia inpatients in 2008 is breast cancer (18.4 percent), followed by cervical or cervical cancer (10.3 percent). So it needs to be seen also that Indonesian women are more at risk, “” explained Health Minister Dr. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, MPH, Dr.PH, in his opening speech of ACTION (ASEAN Cost In Oncology) Study in Indonesia, at Hotel JW Marriot Kuningan, Jakarta, Friday (16/12/2011). When compared with other countries, in Japan most cancer cases are stomach cancer, in India oral cancer (cancer of the neck and head), whereas in ASEAN countries almost the same is breast and cervical cancer. Why more Indonesian women who have breast and cervical cancer than other cancers? It is not known exactly why more Indonesian women who suffer from cancer, especially breast and cervical cancers. But the Chairman of the Indonesian Oncology Society, Dr Drajat Suardi, Sp.B (K) Onk, said that it is closely related to risk factors. “” Risk factors include faster menstruation, slower menopause and fewer children. If in big cities women want menopause more slowly because they still want to look beautiful, keep a little boy, so that exposure to estrogen hormones become longer. Longer estrogens eventually lead to a greater chance of breast cancer, “explained Dr. Drajat Suardi, Sp.B (K) Onk, Chairman of Oncology Association of Indonesia.Namun these risk factors are not just necessarily become cancer, Dr Drajat said there are internal factors and external factors that can trigger cancer cells. “” Internal factors due to genetic abnormalities, there is a type of gene that is oncogene (oncogene) that accelerates the malignancy of tumor cells, and suppressor gene that slows down. When a viral infection can eventually cause the oncogene to become more rapid or the suppressor gene fails to function, “” Dr. Drajat. In addition to internal factors, there are also external, namely: 1. Biological factors, such as bacteria and viruses that can convert mutated cells into further mutations.2. Chemical factors, such as food coloring and hormonal. Physical factors, such as those originating from internal factors and then coupled with burns that cause keloid and often rubbed, which eventually leads to skin cancer. “” There are also environmental factors, if in Japan why more people get stomach cancer probably because the food, likes to eat with lots of vinegar. While in India they like to chew nuts that mengandut certain substances that can trigger cancer, “” lid Dr Drajat.
